Gossip website causes firestorm

If you haven't heard, there are a few websites that have sprung up that allow users to post gossip about other people anonymously. I am not going to post the link to, or the name of the website, but there is one in particular that is especially vicious.

Xanga Fined $1 Million By The FTC

Xanga was fined $1 million dollars by the FTC today which is the largest penalty ever under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Xanga is a weblog community, or social networking site similar to FaceBook or the ever evil MySpace.

Deleting Online Predators Act Of 2006

On July 26, 2006 the House of Representatives passed the bill titled Deleting Online Predators Act Of 2006 (House resolution 5319). This bill aims to block the use of online chat rooms and social networking websites in schools and libraries, basically federally funded institutions. A website has been started dubbed saveyourspace.org with the goal of collecting one million signatures in hopes of pursuading the senate to vote this bill down.
