Windows 7 be more like Linux

An interesting article on Slashdot pointing to an article at which points out what features Windows 7 must implement.

I'm obviously bias, but I think the author is picking out what he likes most about Linux? It's funny how a few years ago, Linux had to be more like Windows, but now, Windows needs to be more like Linux.

Using the mail command in Linux

The mail command is a powerful command used to manage your local mail on a *nix box. I use the mail command in (k)ubuntu frequently and have root's mail forwarded to my account on my boxes.

To use mail, you'll have to install the mailx package in (k)ubuntu.

$ sudo apt-get install mailx

When you login to your linux box via the command line you might see a message such as this:

jsteelsmith@localhost-10:~$ ssh
Linux jacob-desktop 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686

Upgrade Ubuntu Feisty post end of life

Last month, Feisty (Ubuntu 6.10) reached end of life. This means that support is no longer offered, updates are no longer being released and, much to my surprise, the repositories are gone. Well, not gone, but moved.

Rant from Bill Gates

"Then it told me to reboot my machine. Why should I do that? I reboot every night -- why should I reboot at that time?

So I did the reboot because it INSISTED on it. Of course that meant completely getting rid of all my Outlook state."

Microsoft offers "legal downgrade" to Windows XP is following the slow decommission of Windows XP and has mentioned Microsoft is offering a legal downgrade from Vista Business or Vista Ultimate for customers who want XP on their new machines. This comes on the heels of the announcement that, today, Microsoft stopped selling XP to major retailers and computer distributors.

Yakuake quake style, terminator type console for kde

Yakuake is a quake style, terminator type terminal emulator, or console for KDE.

With the rising popularity of terminator for gnome, which is very cool, I love that KDE has an equivalent.

Uncontacted tribe photographed in Brazil

An unknown Amazon Basin tribe was photographed recently along the border with Peru. It is incredible that tribes still exist completely isolated from "modern" life and these pictures are just astounding.

Drugs, prostitution and the irresponsible

I was somewhat perturbed by two local radio hosts who insisted that the war on drugs was a waste of money and prostitution should be legal. The war on drugs is necessary and is about more than just a hippie smoking a joint. I doubt any recovering addict is supporting the legalization of drugs. And saving one or two families to me is more important than any amount of money.

I guess the host didn't see it that way:
