I cannot get USB sticks to work through the kiosk using nodm, are there any special permissions to set?

I am trying to install a minimal version of Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit) on a 4 GB USB stick. I am thinking that this would be a cheaper and probably more reliable solution than a traditional hard drive. I think I followed your instructions exactly but when I reboot the computer and try to login to the kiosk account I get the following error message: Failed to load session “gnome”.
