Teacher crosses the line in support of Obama

Categories:

In Fayetteville, N.C. a teacher is under fire for expressing her strong political views, favoring Barack Obama, in the class room and in the presence of a Scandinavian film crew shooting a documentary.

When student Cathy Thompson said she was backing McCain because her parents were, Harris responded, "Oh Lord." She later called the war in Iraq "senseless" and told the girl that McCain planned to keep U.S. troops in Iraq for 100 years, if necessary.

"That means your daddy could stay in the military for another 100 years," Harris told the girl, who silently bit her lip.

This is the original clip from the Scandinavian documentary.

And a follow up interview with the teacher can be seen here. The teacher claims the video was edited.

To me, she obviously showed inappropriate bias towards Barack Obama, especially during their open discussion. This is not, in my opinion, a teacher's job. I want my child to be learning math and English, not discussing who a better candidate is.

If that was my daughter, I would be furious. She obviously singled that girl out and, regardless of editing, was friendlier towards the Barack Obama supporters. And for this teacher to attempt to justify her behavior is inexcusable. I wonder if she would be fine with another teacher talking to her child like that for supporting Obama?

She should lose her job as it is apparent her judgment is not sufficient for a teacher. These types of discussions are not appropriate for a grade school classroom.
