Microsoft quashes competition at University presentation

Categories:

Yet another example illustrating Microsoft's strategy to be the only, not the best, software supplier on the market.

As Jani Monoses blogs, a University in Cluj Napoca, Romania held a CS/informatics competition for high school students, which was combined with presentations from software companies for informatics professors.

Jani requested a short session about the benefits of FOSS in education with references to Ubuntu, Edubuntu, and Kiwilinux , linux for Romania, and was given a slot after the presentations of Microsoft, Cisco and a local company.

Two days after the confirmation of the presentation time, Jani and the Free Software Group planning the presentations were notified that the Microsoft representative in charge of the education strategy had requested the organizers pull the Ubuntu presentation, citing unfair competition, according to the article, because they co-sponsored the event.

Jani and his group were promised the opportunity to present at a later date to a similar group of professors in June.

This is typical, monopolistic behaviour of Microsoft, unwilling to compete using a better product, but willing to stifle competition using patents, bullying and whining.
