Google Maps Navigation for Android

With the new release of Android 2.0, deployable to handsets next month, comes Google Maps Navigation. This is a very exciting update to Android and, aside from Google Docs integration, is one of the most needed features for the Android OS.

Google Maps Navigation will use the built in GPS unit to offer turn by turn voice guidance, automatic re-routing, and 3D views amongst other features. Because the application is constantly connected to the internet, it will always have up to date maps and will leverage the "crowdsourced" data from Google Maps.

This update to Google Maps also offers:

  • Search in plain English
  • Search by voice
  • Traffic view
  • Search along route
  • Satellite view
  • Street View

It's not clear yet whether the T-Mobile G1 will get the 2.0 update.
